The beams are of concrete, contg. fibrous material, and each contains one or more prestressed steel wires. The energy of the avalanche etc. is absorbed by the wall, which is restored to its original shape afterwards. The supports can be of reinforced concrete, with universal joints at the bottom ends allowing movement in the horizontal direction. ADVANTAGE - Unaffected by rust, with consequent long service life.
