Zusammenfassung:	The machine has a housing (1) in which a fixed cylinder (2) is accommodated with a gap in between. Arranged in the cylinder are a percussion member (8) and a reciprocating drive piston (6) which are separated from one another by an air cushion (9). For pressure balance in the air cushion at the top and bottom dead centre of the drive piston, a system for discharging and feeding the air to the air cushion (9) through bores (12) in the side walls of the drive piston (6) is provided. In the wall of the fixed cylinder (2) directly under the end face (15) of the drive piston (6), there is a bore (14) in the zone of the top dead centre of the drive piston (6), which bore (14) connects the air cushion (9) to the space (3) in the gap between the fixed cylinder (2) and the housing (1).
