Zusammenfassung: | The invention relates to a device for filling or topping up batteries, for example, a battery mounted in a vehicle for its propulsion. It consists of a carriage (60) comprising a reservoir (42) of acid or of distilled water, and pipes (61) and (62) connected to the entry and to the exit (47) and (44) of a series of filling devices (16) on each battery element. At the end of the series, the pipe (61) is connected to a drain cell (46) on a carriage, and a pump (49) draws the liquid from the reservoir through the filling devices to the cell. A switch sensitive to the level in the cell is used for controlling the end of the filling operation which may be performed automatically by connecting the pipes (61) and (62) and connecting up the installation. A timer and an air valve (57) ensure that all the liquid is sucked from the pipe after the elements have been filled, before the pump is stopped. Connections (70) automatically connect the entry and the exit (47) and (44) to vents (71) preventing explosion once the pipes (61) and (62) have been disconnected, for the case in which hydrogen is liberated in the battery. |
