1474098 Welding by fusion SMIT WELD BV 8 July 1974 [12 July 1973] 30242/74 Heading B3R A self-adhesive backing tape for single side welding comprises, applied in parallel, a first adhesive by which the tape can be affixed by hand but which becomes ineffective at welding temperatures and a second adhesive which has an adhesive temperature extending higher than, and-overlapping, that of the first adhesive, the arrangement being such that before the maximum effective temperature of the first adhesive is reached the second adhesive melts, hardens and becomes effective to take over the adhesive function at welding temperatures. As shown, the tape comprises a strip 2 of heat resistant material, e.g. glass fibre, bonded to a broad tape of aluminium foil 1 having applied thereto, at both sides of the strip 2, said first adhesive and, in zones such as transverse strips or, as shown, circular areas 3, said second adhesive.
