Zusammenfassung:New heteropolysaccharide -10, (I), contains 3% protein and 97% carbohydrate and is not pptd. by cationic dyes. Carbohydrate contains 19% uronic acid, 39% glucose, 29% galactose and 13% fucose. (I) is prepd. by cultivating a heteropolysaccharide-generating strain of Erwinia tahitica, (A), under submerged aerobic conditions at 28-35 degrees C, in an aq. nutrient medium contg. hydrolysed starch having dextrose equiv. 20-35 as C-source, as well as sources for N, Mg and P. (I) can be used as thickener in aq. compsns. outside textile industry, esp. in aq. paint media and drilling fluids. Thickening properties, pseudoplasticity, stability to salts and total rheology allow (I) to be used as thickener, suspension- and stabilising agent in aq. systems. (I) can be used as additive for textile printing pastes, in compsn. of aq herbicides, in salad compsns. for thickening puddings and as thickener for adhesives.
