Zusammenfassung:Gem stones are produced having a Ti asteriating cpd. Uniformly distributed throughout their structure by (a) forming a melt of alumina and 1-3% wt. titania (b) forming a region on the melt surface with a temp. suitable for crystal formation (c) dipping a seed crystal into the melt, and (d) pulling the product crystal. Cabochons can be obtained from any part of the crystal body in any desired size compatible with the need to have the base plane normal to the c-axis.
