[Also in Division B8] Samples in containers 20 each of which carries a removable identification member 64 identifying the sample and the tests to be performed on it are tested by a method comprising moving each of the containers in turn to a sample testing position adjacent testing machine 24, drawing sample from the container in sample testing position through tube 40 into machine 24 and testing the sample, converting the test result into digital information and feeding the information to printer 30, the printer printing the data on to the information member while the container is at the sample testing position. The identification member may be a card carried in a channel formation integrally moulded with the sample container (see Specification 1,264,965) and then extends in a vertical plane below the sample container when the container is mounted on movable conveyor 22. For the printing operation the card is supported by a backing member 154 carried by the printer 30. On completion of the test and print-out the card may be removed from the container and a peelable tab carrying the patient and test data removed from it and stuck on a patient master card.
