Zusammenfassung: | Production of glycidyl ethers of mono- or polyhydric phenols Comprises reacting a mono- or polyhydric phenol with excess epichlorohydrin in an aqueous alkaline medium containing 0.95-1.15 equivalent of an alkali(ne earth) hydroxide per equivalent of phenolic OH groups. The alkali(ne earth) hydroxide is added gradually (over 30-300 mins) with cooling. The water is distilled off, followed by excess epichlorohydrin. The glycidyl ether is separated from the alkali(ne earth) chloride precipitated during the reaction by filtration or extraction with an organic solvent. This process gives filtration on extraction with an organic solvent. This process gives nearly theoretical yields. Other advantages include the relatively low reaction temperature (50-100 degrees C, pref. 75-95 degrees C), and good viscosity stability of the products. |
