Zusammenfassung:1-(5-Nitro-2-thiazolyl)-2 oxo-imidazolidines prepn Title cpds. of formula (I) (where R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl) are prepared in good yields from readily accessible starting materials without isolation of intermediates by reacting a thiazole deriv. of formula (II) (where R2 is alkyl or aralkyl and X is Cl, Br or SR2) with an amine H2N-CHR1-CH2-Y (where Y is a reactively esterified hydroxyl group) and heating the resulting reaction mixture (contg. a 1-(5-nitro-2-thiazolyl)-2-(ar)alkylthio-4-R1-2-imidazoline) with an oxidizing agent (e.g. H2O2, KMnO4 or a peracid).
