A combination comprising a support member 11 including a chuck 14 having jaws 14a for holding a dental tool and carrying a clamping nut 15, a holder for receiving the support member 11 and including a rotatable drive wheel 7, the support member having a wheel 17 coupled to the chuck 14 engageable by the drive wheel, an abutment 4 on the holder for holding the clamping nut against rotation, so that when the support member is located in the holder with the nut engaged by the abutment and the two wheels engaged, the drive wheel may be rotated to clamp or unclamp the jaws on the tool. The holder comprises a support 1 and a holding member 2 which may either be fixed to or pivotally mounted on support 1 to enable the support member 11 to be inserted therein. The holding member comprises a body formed with an axial bore in which the drive wheel is located (see Fig. 1) or it may be formed as a mandrel on which the support member in the form of a hand piece sleeve is located (see Fig. 8). Drive wheel 7 is mounted on a displaceable spring-loaded shaft 6 to facilitate reception of the support member 11 on the holder.
