Zusammenfassung:1,211,990. Terminals. AMP Inc. 25 June, 1969 [3 July, 1968], No. 32031/69. Heading H2E. When making an insulated terminal assembly using an elongate tubular member with a continuous longitudinal wing 2 the member is cut into lengths to form housings 3 and guide holes 4 are formed in the wing. The carrier strip thus formed is fed into an apparatus (Fig. 5) consisting of a sprocket wheel whose teeth 7 engage the holes, a reciprocating mandrel 8 which inserts a terminal sleeve 9 into a housing 3 and a die 10 to heat-shrink the housing on to the sleeve. The strip may be passed through reduction rollers 11, 12, 13. Subsequently for further shrinking. The strip is fed to a second similar apparatus (Fig. 6) in which a terminal 17 in inserted and the housing is formed into the requisite shape e.g. a bell mouth end. The strips may have a tubular body attached to one or more lateral wings directly or through bridging portions, which may be bent at right angles (Figs. 1 to 4, not shown). Two tubular bodies with a common wing may also be used with each housing being closed at the trailing end. (Fig. 8, not shown). Several insulated assemblies made by the above method may be held detachably by tabs projecting from carrier strips for passage through a machine for crimping wire ends. (Figs. 10-13, not shown).
