[Also in Division C2] Antiinflammatory compositions for oral, parenteral, rectal or topical application comprise at least one steroid of the pregnane series having an oxo group in the 3- and 20- positions, a #4-double bond, a keto or #- hydroxy group in the 11-position, a 17α-hydroxy group, and a 21-acyloxy group the acyl radical of which is that of a terpenic acid, homoterpenic acid or terpenylacetic acid, the acid in each case being derived from an acyclic mono-, sesqui- or di-terpene having from 1 to 4 (2-methyl-but-2-ene) units; and a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient. Examples of these steroids are the geranates, homogeranates, geranylacetates, farnesates, homofarnesates, farnesylacetates and citronellates of cortisone, hydrocortisone, prednisone, prednisolone, dexamethasone, triameinolone, paramethasone and betamethasone. As further active ingredients the compositions for topical application may also contain neomycin sulphate, neomycin palmitate, tetracycline, oxytetracycline hydrochloride, pantothenyl trifarnesylacetate, benzalkonium hydrochloride and 2-(1- pyrrolidinyl)-ethyl #-(1-naphthyl)-acrylate decylbromide.
