Zusammenfassung: | 1,154,181. Two-part couplings. AMPHENOL CORP. 27 May, 1966 [28 May, 1965], No. 23990/66. Heading H2E. In a coaxial cable connector, the inner contact is electrically connected to the inner conductor of the cable and subsequently inserted into a bore in an insulating member, the contact and the insulating member being provided with integral mating radial portions which prevent relative axial movement between contact and member after insertion. As shown, Fig. 1, a female connector 10 comprises a metal shell 12 having a forward outer contact portion 15 and a rearward ferrule portion 13 grooved or knurled at 14 to make effective connection with the outer cable conductor. An insulating insert 22 of a deformable plastics material is retained in a counterbore 18 in shell 12 by a lock washer 23. Insert 22 has a cental bore 25 with an inwardly extending annular flange 27 having a chamfered rear face 28 and a perpendicular forward face 29. Inner socket contact 30 is soldered to the inner conductor of the cable (not shown) and inserted into bore 25 until flange 27 engages an annular groove 33 in the periphery of contact 30. In Fig. 2, which depicts the complementary male connector 11, metal shell 38 comprises a resilient outer contact portion 44 in which insulating insert 51 is located and retained by a circumferential indentation 62 in portion 44. Shell 38 is supported in a rotatable outer cover 37 between a flexible gasket 41 and a spring washer 42. Inner plug contact 57 is provided with a peripheral groove 59 which is engaged by annular flange 55 in bore 54 in insert 51. When connectors 10, 11 are engaged, a stub 16 on connector 10 enters a helical groove 76 in cover 37, which is rotated to lock the connectors together. The outer conductors (not shown), of the cables are placed between ferrule portions 13, 45 of the connectors, and crimping sleeves (70, Fig. 3, not shown), the assembly being crimped and then gripped with insulating sleeves (72). Each insulating insert 22, 51 has a counterbore 24, 52 in its rear face to improve the impedance characteristics of the connector. |
