Zusammenfassung: | Carbon black is separated from a gas mixture, e.g. one made by pyrolysis or partial combustion of hydrocarbons, by washing the gases with an aqueous emulsion of a water-immiscible hydrocarbon, e.g. one boiling in the range 100 DEG to 350 DEG C., e.g. heavy gasoline, kerosene, gas oil, or a tar distillation fraction. The amount of hydrocarbon may vary between 0.2 parts to 10 parts by weight per part of the carbon black in the gas mixture, and the oil may form 0.1 to 30% by weight of the emulsion. Where separated carbon black and oil from the emulsion is to be delivered to a burner, part of the oil may be added to the fouled emulsion, enabling the emulsion for washing the gases to be dilute in respect of oil, e.g. where two-stage washing is being practised. In all cases the separated water is recycled. Emulsifiers may be employed, e.g. up to 1% by weight of the oil. Three specific examples are described. |
