[Also in Division F1] Apparatus for evacuating a filled bag prior to sealing includes a pair of downwardly diverging suction pipes 33, 34 which are introduced into the bag on opposite sides of the contents 66 and may be moved around to empty voids. As the bag is pulled off the pipes, the neck is pressed round them and, just prior to their total withdrawal, a sealing clip is applied, suction being maintained throughout. A device 40, not detailed, attaches a metal clip, fed from a magazine, about the bag neck as the latter is manually pressed into the mouth 48 of the device. Suction is applied by a water pressure-operated ejector 13 (see Division F1). The ejector 13 and pipes 33, 34 are adjustable as to height relative to a table 1, with a water discharge pipe 3 which acts as a support. The clip applicator 40 is adjustable along the pipe 3. A vertical water inlet pipe (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), includes a shut-off valve (54) to destroy the vacuum and a valve (57) in the pipe 3, enables water to be used to flush out the suction pipes.
