Zusammenfassung: | Hydrophobic silica is prepared by precipitating silica from alkali metal silicate solution with mineral acid, adding an organohalosilane to the suspension, filtering, washing and drying the precipitate, and heating at 300-400 DEG C. The silane may have 2 or 3 halogen atoms, preferably Cl, and the organic radicals may be saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, or aromatic radicals containing up to 20 carbon atoms. Dimethyl dichlorosilane is exemplified. The silane, in amounts of 10-20% by weight of the dry silica before treatment, may be added with stirring at 50-90 DEG C. to a suspension at a pH of 5. The final heat treatment may be carried out in a muffle furnace or in a whirling or fluidized bed. The treated silica may be used as a filler for polychlorobutadiene. |
