To prevent fly being formed in two-for-one twist apparatus, the yarn is treated with a lubricant or coating agent after it leaves the bore of the spindle and before or during its passage through the outer balloon. The agent may be in a container inside the spindle rotor and communicating with the outside of the rotor over which the yarn passes by ducts, 26, Fig. 4; or the container may surround, but be spaced away from, the rotor, in which case the container acts as a balloon restrictor, 27, Fig. 5. In another form (Fig. 1, not shown), the agent may be in a container on the outside of a cylindrical balloon-restrictor communicating with the inside of the restrictor by slots, bores which may taper, or by the porosity of the restrictor wall. A number of containers may be supplied from a common source by a measuring-device. The agent may be of liquid, pasty, or solid consistency, and may be an anti-static oil a fat or a wax, and be employed with or without a carrier such as a wick, sponge, foam material or sintered material.
