Zusammenfassung:1,015,439. Cutting webs. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov. 26, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 48099/64. Heading B4B. A severing mechanism for a micro-film reader printer, having means for feeding print material M, Fig. 2, over an exposure platen 12, comprises cutter blades 23, 25 the blade 23 being secured to the printer housing 11, Fig. 1, so as to be arranged diagonally of the material and the blade 25 being secured across the open end of a U-shaped metal frame 27 so that the cutting edge of the blade 25 partially overlaps the cutting edge of the blade 23 in point contact therewith, the other end of the frame being mounted at its mid-point on a plate 29 secured to the housing 11, means being provided for flexing the frame 27 in a direction perpendicular to the frame so as to move the cutting edge of the blade 25 in travelling point contact across the cutting edge of the blade 23 to sever the material, the resiliency of the frame automatically returning the blade 25 to its original position upon release of the frame by the flexing means. The frame has secured thereto at 21 slotted brackets 19 attached to plates 16 secured to a frame 15 in which a mirror 14 is mounted, the frame 15 being rotatable about a shaft 17. Bracket 19 is fixed lower on the plate 16 at one side of the housing 11 than on the plate at the other side. Rotational movement of the mirror counterclockwise raises the frame 27 and the blades 23, 24 to sever from the supply the length of material resting on the platen 12. The blades are interchangeable and reversible. A guide 33 is attached to the frame 27 by legs 35, 37 and forms an opening through which the material passes whence it is fed between the blades 23, 25 the arrangement being such that after the severing operation and as the blade 25 is being lowered out of overlapping relation from the blade 23, the guide 33 returns the leading edge of the material from the supply roll back into the original path for subsequent feeding under the blade 23 and on to the platen 12. The guide 33 is provided with extensions 39, 41 which restrain lateral motion of the frame 27 by acting against the respective extensions 43, 45 of a light baffle 47 attached to the blade 23. The frame 27 is provided with an extension 49 to cover the opening between the platen and the blades which exists at the completion of the severing operation.
