A lens assembly comprises an afocal zoom system L 6 -L 14 in front of a fixed objective L 1 -L 5 and to change the range of focal length the front convergent part L 8 -L 14 only is readily detachable, such as by being mounted in a member 8 corrected by a bayonet joint to the casing 1, the rear divergent portion of the afocal zoom system L 6 L 7 being fixed in the casing 1. As shewn the removable part of the zoom assembly consists of a fixed front lens L 14 and two acts of movable members L 8 - L 11 and L 12 L 13 respectively. Optical data are given for one example described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). After removal of the front convergent part of the zoom system it may be replaced by a fixed focal length lens assembly to form a telephoto objective of large focal length.
