1414479 Device for radioimmunoassay ABBOTT LABORATORIES 19 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 58661/72 Heading G1B Test apparatus for use in direct radioimmunoassay of for example hepatitis-associated antigen or antibody comprises a receptacle 41 for the sample to be assayed and a test reagent-carrying member having a handle portion and an end portion, the end portion 46 being insertable within the receptacle and having a coating of an antigen or antibody which in use of the apparatus binds the corresponding antibody or antigen from the sample. A cylindrical handle portion, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) may have two end portions each shaped to fit a receptacle and the receptacle may be hollow-ended to facilitate stacking, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown). In another embodiment, a hemispherical end portion is carried by a handle portion which is a rectangular sheet of material, Fig.7 (not shown). In carrying out the test using apparatus as shown, the end portion is placed in the sample in the receptacle and the assembly incubated. The tip is then placed in a solution of the radio-actively labelled form of the end portion coating reactant and the assembly incubated again. The tip is returned to the sample receptacle and the assembly counted.
