Zusammenfassung:	1404596 Flavourings; modified cigarette and pipe filters WILKINSON SWORD Ltd 5 April 1973 [18 April 1972] 17913/72 Headings A2B and A2C [Also in Divisions A5 and C6] Pharmaceutical, cosmetic, toilet, edible, potable and smokable compositions comprise, as an ingredient having a physiological cooling effect on the skin and mucous membranes, a compound of the formula: wherein: R, is H or C 1-5 alkyl; R 2 and R 3 are each C 2-5 alkyl and: i) when R 1 is H at least one of R, and R 3 is a branched chain group; ii) when R, is methyl and R 2 or R 3 is isobutyl, the other is selected from: ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl or amyl and, iii) R 1 , R 2 and R 3 provide a total of from 7 to 10 carbon atoms. The compounds may be used in any composition useful in the abovementioned fields where a cooling sensation is desired. Specific examples relate inter alia to a soft sweet, a boiled sweet, and a cigarette tobacco (impregnated with 2, 4-dimethyl-3- ethyl-3 pentanol). Reference is also made to pipe and cigarette filters and "filter tips" impregnated with the active compounds, e.g. by soaking in an alcoholic solution thereof and drying.
