1320997 Carbamates SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Inc 17 Aug 1971 [20 Aug 1970] 38500/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises carbamates of general formula wherein X, Y and Z are independently O or S, provided that when Y=Z=S, X cannot be O; R 1 and R 2 are independently H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, halogen or -NO 2 ; R 3 and R 4 are independently H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or may by ring closure together form a cyclic alkyleneimino or morpholino group with the nitrogen. The compounds are prepared by (A) reacting an alcohol or mercaptan of formula with a carbamic acid chloride of formula or (B) reacting a chlorocarbonate of formula with an amine of formula or (c) reacting a halogen compound of formula wherein R 6 is Cl or Br, with a carbamate of formula wherein M is Na, K or NH 4 +; or (D) compounds of formula wherein R 5 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl are prepared by reacting an alcohol or mercaptan of Formula II with an isocyanate or isothiocyanate of formula The novel carbamates of the invention have valuable herbicidal properties and in use as granules, dusts, wettable powders or emuisifiable concentrates may be compounded with many carrier materials optional also together with other active components such as fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides, nematocides or other herbicides.
