Zusammenfassung:1356820 Optical brightening process CIBAGEIGY AG 25 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 39931/71 Heading D1P Materials consisting of cellulose, or natural or synthetic polyamide fibres, e.g. wool, silk, nylon &c, are optically brightened by an exhaustion process using a liquor/goods ratio of at least 5:1 with a solution of an optical brightener which is a salt of an inorganic base and an acid optical brightener in a solvent mixture consisting of (a) 50-99% unsubstituted or halogenated hydrocarbon boiling between 50-150‹C and of (b) 50-1% of a liquid, water soluble organic solvent boiling below 220‹C at room temperature up to the boiling temperature of the solvent mixture. Pressure may be applied. Specified solvents (a) are toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene, trichlorethylene, tetrachlorethylene, trifluorotrichloroethane, di, tri and tetrachlorethane, pentafluorethane, dibromoethylene, tribromoethylene, chloroform and CCl 4 . Specified solvents (b) are alkanols 1-5C, cyclohexanol, benzyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, cyclohexanone, ethylene glycol monomethyl or ethyl ether, furfuryl alcohol, tetrahydro furfuryl alcohol, dioxane, formic and acetic acids dimethylformamide or -acetamide, tetramethylurea, N-methyl pyrrolidone, and acetonitrile. Numerous alkali metal and ammonium salts of optical brighteners containing sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups are specified.
