1353072 Hypertensive medicines UPJOHN CO 21 May 1971 [9 June 1970] 16280/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral or parenteral administration, contain the novel compound N-(5,6-dimethyl-2-benzimdazolyl) - acetamide or its pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. The compound possesses hypertensive activity. The compositions may contain other hypertensive agents, such as hydralazine hydrochloride, hexamethonium bromide, mecamylamine hydrochloride, phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride, guanethidine sulphate and methyldopa, or diuretic agents such as ethoxyzolamide, hydrochlorothiazide, trichloromethazide, reserpine and acetazolamide, or sedatives and tranquilizers such as phenobarbital, pentobarbital, chloral hydrate, chorpromazine, thioridozine, diazepam butabarbital, amobarbital, chlordiazepoxide, haloperidol, meprobamate and ectylurea, or antidepressants such as amitriptyline hydrochloride, methylphenidate hydrochloride, d-amphetamine sulphate and methomphetamine hydrochloride, or analgesics such as aspirin and acetaminophen.
