Zusammenfassung:An apparatus for detecting the presence of a ferro-magnetic vehicle wheel has been provided. A primary coil energized with an alternating current input signal produces a magnetic field in the vicinity of the rail on which the wheel is moving. A secondary coil responsive to the field is aligned in the primary field such that a null or zero signal exists at the output of the secondary in the absence of a vehicle wheel. The presence of a wheel in the primary field disturbs that field sufficiently to produce an output in the secondary coil, thus providing indication of wheel presence.
