Zusammenfassung:	Methods and apparatus are disclosed for gripping an object with a resilient bladder containing granular material. The bladder has a relaxed state, in which the bladder is deformable. The bladder further has a gripping state, in which negative pressure is applied to the interior of the bladder to compact the granular material. Such compaction stiffens the bladder against deformation. In the gripping state, a gripping force is applied to the object at a concave gripping surface of the bladder.
