Zusammenfassung:	An electrochemical cell, or stack thereof, wherein each cell of the stack comprises at least: a membrane electrode assembly (MEA), the MEA comprising at least: an anode, a cathode, and an an-ion exchange membrane therebetween, an inlet to the anodic half-cell for the introduction of hydrogen at a first pressure, and an outlet from the cathodic half-cell for the transfer of hydrogen at a second pressure, and means to provide a required power to the cell. In one embodiment, the purification and compression of hydrogen occurring by utilisation of the following reaction pathway: formula (A) and formula (B). L'invention concerne une cellule électrochimique, ou un empilement de cellules électrochimiques, chaque cellule de l'empilement comprenant au moins : un ensemble membrane-électrodes (EMA), l'EMA comprenant au moins : une anode, une cathode et une membrane échangeuse d'ions entre les deux, une entrée dans la demi-cellule anodique pour l'introduction d'hydrogène à une première pression et une sortie hors de la demi-cellule cathodique pour le transfert d'hydrogène à une seconde pression, et un moyen pour fournir une puissance requise à la cellule. Dans un mode de réalisation, la purification et la compression d'hydrogène ont lieu par l'utilisation de la voie de réaction suivante : formule (A) et formule (B).
