Zusammenfassung:	Methods, systems and designs are provided for removing mercury from crudes. Crude oil containing a synthetic reducing agent is heated to a temperature above 100°C and held at that temperature for a specified period of time to convert all of the forms of mercury in the oil into the elemental mercury form. The elemental mercury is then stripped from the crude oil by e.g., flashing the hot oil and/or contacting it with a gas phase. La présente invention concerne des procédés, des systèmes et des configurations permettant d'éliminer le mercure présent dans du pétrole brut. Le pétrole brut contenant un agent réducteur synthétique est chauffé jusqu'à une température supérieure à 100°C et est maintenu à cette température pendant une période spécifiée pour convertir toutes les formes de mercure présentes dans le pétrole en mercure élémentaire. Le mercure élémentaire est ensuite extrait du pétrole brut, par exemple, par vaporisation de l'huile chaude et/ou par mise en contact avec une phase gazeuse.
