The method involves supplying 502-containing rich gas into a gas pre-heater, in which air is added thereto before it enters the gas pre-heater, and then heating the 502-containing rich gas with the added air in the gas pre-heater. La présente invention concerne un procédé en continu de purification d'un gaz contenant 60 à 99 % en volume de SO2 (dioxyde de soufre) et 1 à 40 % en volume de vapeur d'eau, avec production consécutive de SO3 (anhydride sulfurique) sans séchage de gaz préalable, ainsi qu'un dispositif permettant la mise en oeuvre dudit procédé.
