Zusammenfassung:	Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and device for upgrading multi-dwelling units (MDUs). The method comprises: an optical line terminal (OLT) receives an instruction message sent by a network management system (NMS) and instructing upgrade tasks for MDUs; the OLT sends, according to the instruction message, to each of the MDUs at least one first message configured to instruct said MDU about preparation processing before an upgrade is performed; and the OLT sends an upgrade file to the MDUs, such that the MDUs perform an upgrade according to the upgrade file. In the embodiments of the present invention, an NMS instructs an OLT to send an upgrade file to MDUs, such that the MDUs perform an upgrade according to the upgrade file provided by the OLT. The embodiments of the present invention upgrade MDUs by using an OLT instead of an NMS in the prior art, thereby improving the upgrade concurrency for the MDUs, and enhancing the upgrade performance of the MDUs.
