PROPHYLACTIC COMPOSITIONS FOR MANAGEMENT OF MICROBIAL INFECTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH BRAIN INJURY

The present disclosure pertains to antimicrobial compositions for intravenous administration to patients who have experienced a serious brain trauma, to reduce the risk of occurrence of post-trauma microbial infections. The antimicrobial compositions comprise an a-galacytosylceramide compound and one or more excipients. The present disclosure also pertains to the use of a-galacytosylceramide compounds for the manufacture of antimicrobial medicaments for intravenous administration to patients with serious brain traumas. The present disclosure also pertains to methods for the prophylactic use of the antimicrobial compositions to reduce the risks of occurrence of post-trauma microbial infections.
