Zusammenfassung:Customary mercury vapour discharge lamps comprise a closed emitter tube made of quartz glass having an emitter tube end, a gas-tight sealing in the region of the emitter tube end, and two electrodes arranged inside the emitter tube for generating a discharge in a discharge zone between the electrodes, as well as an amalgamate reservoir. In order to devise a mercury vapour discharge lamp having an amalgamate reservoir, which can be operated at high efficiency at variable irradiation power and also is easy and inexpensive to manufacture, the invention proposes to form an annular gap in the region of the emitter tube end between a quartz glass tube and the emitter tube and to arrange the amalgamate reservoir inside said annular gap.
