PREDICTION BASED ACQUISITION OF META-DATA FOR LOCATION BASED SERVICES

An algorithm is presented for predicting the most desirable data set (of meta-data) to be fetched from the server for location based services in a mobile device. The prediction of meta-data subset is based upon the anticipated target location, application context, user preferences and usage history. The anticipated target location is calculated from current location, speed, direction, road network and probability of taking a particular route. The meta-data is perfected for a target location in advance so that the data is current when the user arrives at this location. For determining the perfecting time, the amount data of the predicted data set and the communication speed are used.
