Zusammenfassung: | A permanent magnet synchronous machine comprises a stator, a rotor and a plurality of permanent magnets mounted to the rotor. Each magnet has a shaped body characterized by an arcuate radially outer surface, a flat inner surface, a first side surface facing an opposite pole, and a second side surface facing a like pole, wherein the first side surface and the flat inner surface subtend an angle .delta.1 that is greater than 90 degrees and wherein the second side surface and the flat inner surface subtend an angle .delta.2 that is also greater than 90 degrees. The permanent magnet synchronous machine may be used in a flywheel energy storage system or in other electromechanical systems. |
