La présente invention concerne un processus de purification d'eau utilisant un carbonate de calcium naturel qui a réagi en surface qui est mis en contact avec de l'eau à purifier, le carbonate de calcium naturel qui a réagi en surface étant le produit de réaction d'un carbonate de calcium naturel avec un acide et du dioxyde de carbone, qui est formé in situ par le traitement acide et/ou amené de l'extérieur.
