Zusammenfassung: | A method and apparatus for joining materials having primarily ferritic pr operties is described. The method includes joining the ferritic materials us ing a welding process and a weld material having a primarily austenitic micr ostructure. The resulting weldment enhances the properties of yield ratio, u niform elongation, toughness and tearing resistance thereby producing superi or strain capacity. High strain capacity produces a structure that accommoda tes high axial loading. The weldment can also accommodate larger than conven tional weld flaws while maintaining sufficient strength, tearing resistance, and fracture toughness under high axial loading. |
