Une méthode pour élargir un fond de trou tubulaire comprend la fourniture dun outil dexpansion qui comprend une paire de joints détanchéité espacés lun de lautre sur un corps, le positionnement de lélément tubulaire et de loutil dexpansion dans le puits de forage, la mise sous pression de lélément tubulaire entre les joints détanchéité, lexpansion de lélément tubulaire, lapport dun trajet découlement à travers le corps et la fourniture dun volume prémesuré de fluide entre les joints détanchéité pour obtenir un volume prédéterminé dexpansion de lélément tubulaire.
