Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:A compliant seal assembly (38, 56,88, 87, 98, 134, 157, 170, 189, 200, 211) for a rotating machine (10) is provided. The seal assembly (38, 56,88, 87, 98, 134, 157, 170, 189, 200, 211) includes a static member (18, 40, 62,80, 100, 119, 136162, 184, 192, 202, 226), a movable member (20, 50, 66, 82, 102, 120, 120, 138, 168, 176, 210, 216) and a biasing member. The static member (18, 40, 62,80, 100, 119, 136162, 184, 192, 202, 226) is rigidly fixed to the machine (10) at its fore and aft ends. The movable portion has a first sealing surface (48) configured to seal against a rotating member (12, 39) and a rear surface (46), which may be exposed to a fluid pressure to urge the first sealing surface (48) toward a sealing position with the rotating member (12, 39). The static and the movable members further include sealing surfaces at their fore, aft and end faces to seal against leakage of gas between the static and the movable members. The biasing member is configured to support the movable member (20, 50, 66, 82, 102, 120, 120, 138, 168, 176, 210, 216) on the static member (18, 40, 62,80, 100, 119, 136162, 184, 192, 202, 226) and to urge the movable member (20, 50, 66, 82, 102, 120, 120, 138, 168, 176, 210, 216) away from the sealing position so as to reduce force on the rotating member (12, 39) during contact of the rotating member (12, 39) with the first sealing surface (48) of the movable member.
