Zusammenfassung:To date phylogeny has been used to compare entire families of proteins based on their nucleotide or amino-acid sequence. The present invention is directed to a novel analytical platform allowing the systematic comparison of families of protei ns based on their biochemical properties utilizing high throughput assays. Integration a nd hierarchical clustering of the results for the Rho subfamily of GTPases revealed unexpected features of the small Rho GTPases when compared to amino-acid sequence-based trees. A novel phylo-biochemical classification of the Ras superfamily of GTPases is proposed.
