Zusammenfassung:	A new non-woven depth filter element (126) is formed in a continuous process whereby a mass of very fine diameter polymer filaments (132) overlaid by mas s of larger diameter polymer filaments (136) are continuously accumulated on a spinning mandrel (110) and advanced along and off of the mandrel (110) by a press roller (124). An inner cylindrical surface (134) of the cumulative filament mass forming the depth filter element is calendared, which facilitates insertion of a core member.
