Zusammenfassung:	The method of and apparatus for counting and discriminating documents o f different types comprises receiving a stack of documents to be evaluated an input receptacle, transporting the documents, one at a time, from that input receptacle to an output receptacle, counting and determining the identity of the documents , and flagging a document when its identity can not be determined. Preferably, a discriminating unit along the transport path counts and evaluates the documents and transporting of the documents in the stack is halted with the document whose identity has not been determined being the last document transported to the output receptacle. The method and apparatus have particular application in currency evaluation.
