Said blanks are maintained in a substantially upright position by holding devices (17) and the welding process is carried out in this position using a laser welding device (11, 13). The inventive method and device provides a means for substantially saving space, both with regard to the treatment and handling of the blanks vis-à-vis known horizontal arrangements.
