Zusammenfassung: | A cam shaft is provided to operate the valves of an internal combustion engine and has a shaft with cam surfaces that are engaged by mechanisms that open and close the valves. A steel gear is attached to the shaft and has a major surface bounded by a outer circumferential edge with a plurality of teeth. The major surface has an annular groove and a dampening ring is secured in the groove. The dampening ring is fabricated of a material, such as zinc, which has a different acoustical impedance than the gear thereby providing a barrier to transmission of acoustical energy through the gear. |
