Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides methods for precisely and reproducibly assaying hematopoietic stem cell activity in a cell population and methods of using the assay. By expansion of hematopoietic stem cells identified by means of this assay, one may produce highly enriched or clonal populations of hematopoietic stem cells. The present invention also provides methods for producing enriched or clonal populations of other hematopoietic cell types, hematopoietic cells produced thereby, and methods of using the hematopoietic cells.
