Zusammenfassung:	Prodn. of an overbased metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate comprises: (a) forming a reaction mixt. contg. a basic metal hydrocarbyl dithiophosphate (I) and a metal oxide (II) in a (I):(II) wt. ratio of 0.5-4:1, where (II) has a surface area of 4-12 m2/g; (b) adding a hydrocarbyl dithiophosphoric acid (III); (c) adding 1-8 moles H2O per mole of (II); and (d) reacting the mixt. to give a prod. with metal:P wt. of 1.2-1.3:1.
