Zusammenfassung:	Coal is supplied to a gasification furnace heated to 1,400.degree.C or higher and gasified for 0.1 to 1 second to form a hydrogen-rich gas, which is purified to a purified gas. The purified gas is used as a heating fuel to the gasification furnace, and the combustion gas is fed to an electric generator-coupled gas turbine to generate electric power. The steam recovered in a gas cooler is heated with the exhaust gas from the gas turbine and fed to an electric generator-coupled steam turbine to generate electric power. A hydrogen-rich gas with less CO is formed directly from coal thereby.
