RAIL CAR MOVER

59 An apparatus and method is disclosed for an improved rail car mover for moving a rail car over a metallic rail track. The apparatus comprises a frame member supporting a motive power system and a plurality of primary drive wheels secured to the frame member. A plurality of rail guide wheels provide alignment of the rail car mover on the rail tracks. Plural couplers are secured to the frame member for coupling with a rail car to enable the rail car mover to move the rail car. Each of the primary drive wheels comprises a resilient rubber-like material disposed on the circumferential surface area thereof for providing a high coefficient of friction between the primary drive wheels and the rail track for moving the rail car mover over the rail track. A second power transmission provides motive power to the plurality of rail guide wheels for assisting the primary drive wheels in moving the rail car mover over the rail tracks. The invention may optionally include a novel differential locking system and a guide wheel moving system.
