Zusammenfassung: | LIGHT-REFLECTION METHOD FOR TRANSMISSION-LOSS MEASUREMENTS IN OPTICAL FIBER LIGHTGUIDES This method for transmission-loss measurements relates to the study of the optical properties of lightguides, being capable of being used in measuring tiny transmission losses in various types of optical fiber lightguides. Object - to increase versatility by way of providing the possibility of making measurements in fast-response measuring systems, where the lightguides are spliced together without an air gap, which is achieved through that a sounding light pulse is coupled into the lightguide being investigated, through an idle lightguide, whose length, ?x, is no less than half the length of the steady-state mode distribution for a given type of lightguide, measuring energy or maximum power, N0, of the pulse reflected from the output end face of the idle lightguide, connecting the idle lightguide and the one under investigation, measuring the energy or maximum power, N, of the radiation pulse reflected from the output end face of the lightguide under investigation, determining transmission losses, .mu. , within the lightguide under investigation, from the equation where, ? = length of the lightguide under investigation, ? = transmission factor of the spliced end face of the lightguides.
