Zusammenfassung:A method of and apparatus for fabricating silica optical fibres doped with metal oxides, derived from the synthesis of low-pressure reactants. In a system for fabricating preforms according to an MCVD technique a slit tube, containing a wool of the metal whose oxide is desired, is added inside the supporting tube and a mixture containing halogens or halogen-compounds is injected through the wool to yield the dopant precursor reactant.
