CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR

A centrifugal separator has a rotary bowl (14) for receiving feed which forms a pool (228) within the bowl, a skimmer (78) movably mounted to fixed structure within the bowl (14) for removing liquid from the pool (228) to a discharge system with an outlet (90) external to the bowl, and adjustment means (92) operable from outside the bowl (14) for adjustably moving the skimmer (78) oppositely toward and away from the bowl axis to vary the pool depth. The skimmer adjustment means includes skimmer mounting means movably connecting the skimmer (78) to the fixed structure (120, 122) within the bowl (14) so as to enable adjustment movements thereof by the adjustment means (92) and so that the hydraulic thrust of the pool liquid against the skimmer (78) is applied by the mounting means substantially entirely to the fixed structure (120, 122).
